The Stanley Cup odds are fluctuating right now because it looks like the Ottawa Senators will be trading away Dany Heatley. Now the question is to which team. There are a number of rumors lined up already and it’s not a surprise to see the Northbet Stanley Cup odds bouncing around because Heatley is perennial 40-goal scorer – with 50-goal potential – which means that whichever team lands him could be in good position to make a run at the Cup. One recent has Heatley going to the New York Rangers, which could add the one missing element that the Rangers need. The Rangers improved their defense last year and have a top notch goaltender, but the one thing they lacked was a finisher. With Heatley in tow, the Rangers would be a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference. Another rumor is the San Jose Sharks, which could be an interesting fit but it’s unclear which direction the Sharks are headed. If they are planning to rebuild, then they’ll trade too much for Heatley to still remain a contender. If they add Heatley to their core without breaking up their team, they could be a very dangerous team. The thought of Heatley playing with Joe Thornton would be outstanding. There is the chance that Heatley stays with the Senators but it looks like a bridge has been burned and the Heatley doesn’t want to come back. If that’s the case, expect him to be moved as we get closer to training camp. |
